Painted a picture of a
sailboat schooner today. The Norma and Gladys was built in 1945 by Captain Henry Stone, Trinity Bay to be used in the Labrador floater fishery. The schooner, one of the last to be built in Newfoundland, was constructed of local birch and measured 93 feet and displaced 133 tons. It was used in the floater fishery by Captain Charles Kean of Brookfield, Bonivista Bay until 1951. The schooner sank in Placentia Bay in 1984; the crew was forced to abandon ship after the ship took on water and its pumps failed.
